The Process

National Museums Scotland had been recommended to try us out by Royal Opera House. The museum’s 2017 bid to purchase the stunning Galloway Hoard marked the beginning of our beautiful relationship.

In November 2019, they had to put their Spring 2020 appeal out to tender, and we were thrilled to be staying with them, again chosen to deliver the appeal.

We'd helped NMS complete their £80 million, 15-year transformation, and now they were ready to start work on the Adventure Planet gallery. This gallery‘s aim is to engage their youngest visitors to explore the wild and wonderful world around them and learn how to protect its wildlife and the environment. So now they needed to get fundraising.

The Result

The appeal achieved a double result, against what swiftly turned into a challenging backdrop of the Coronavirus pandemic hitting museums and charities hard.

Although the reminder was put on hold, the main appeal, together with major donor income achieved the income it needed to go ahead, which was great news. The other great result was the chance for a new recruit to the team to have some hands-on creative training from us, skills-building we’re always happy to help out with.

The work that NMS had started in earnest with the Galloway Hoard appeal, to encourage donations from their members, went on to pay fantastic dividends. Their in-house emergency e-appeal achieved a record-breaking response from their now super-warmly engaged members.

What we’re most proud of

Individual Giving can be pretty sidelined in the Museums, Arts and membership sectors. But our work with Royal Opera House, British Library and others has always been useful for IG teams to show Trustees and Directors what can be achieved by bringing members behind the scenes and ask for their support when you do it well.

The team at National Museums Scotland are full of energy, wisdom and knowledge, and we love working with them.

We’re really proud to have helped pave the way for NMS members to protect and look after this jewel in Scotland’s crown.
