The Process

Stroke’s “Give a Hand” community fundraising campaign had got a little bit over-cooked.

The theme, which aimed to incorporate using your non-dominant hand to achieve challenges, was muddying the message for supporters, but still important to the creators.

Stroke invited Great Appeal to come on board and redesign the product with the team.

The Result

It took a bit of persuasion, but everyone was finally convinced that the product would be much more engaging, fun and successful if we streamlined the message and focused on its strengths.

We removed the non-dominant hand focus, and along with it all the non-baking, non-dominant hand activities such as gardening. knitting, making greetings cards. Baking might not be original, but it was getting unhelpfully eclipsed. Less was most definitely going to be more!

The final result was a successful, beautifully on-brand product and pack, with offline and online assets, empowering stewardship, and enthusing the audience who got creative with the charity at their heart.

What we’re most proud of

It‘s never fun to challenge our clients‘ creative ideas repeatedly, but hats off to the team at Stroke for listening and letting our streamlined “Give a Hand and Bake” product take wing.

It’s still serving up a feast for the eyes, taste buds and fundraising income streams today.

What’s more, by removing the non-dominant hand theme, it’s enabled the charity to open up the story to the much wider, less commonly recognised ways that stroke affects our minds and bodies.
